Boswell Mourns the Passing of Senior Vice President John Cassetta

It is with great sadness that the Boswell Engineering family shares the news of the devastating loss of Senior Vice President John Cassetta who passed away on March 26th, one day short of his 80th birthday.   John was an exceptional person and an instrumental part of the Boswell firm. His encyclopedic knowledge of both the technical and personal aspects of the engineering profession, and his affable persona made him a highly effective spokesperson for the Boswell brand.  Both in the office and at the many events he attended, John’s personality lit up every room he entered.  His stature in the engineering community is exemplified by the boards of the many professional organizations on which he proudly served – including the New Jersey Alliance for Action and the ACEC NJ, where he served as the Chairman of the PANYNJ Transportation Committee, and as the Awards Committee Chair for 12 years.

Born in 1944 and raised in the Bronx, NY, John received a Communications degree from Dayton University before earning dual degrees in Business Administration and Metropolitan Studies from Ramapo College.  In 1973, he was elected to the Waldwick, NJ, Borough Council. Two years later, at 31 years of age, he was elected Mayor. John served two terms as Mayor, and became a well-known presence in New Jersey politics.
John began his career in the New York music industry, where he became a marketing executive representing some of the biggest artists of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.  He loved to share stories of his days in show business, and he was proud of his many accomplishments in that field.
When John joined Boswell in 1986, his business acumen and political experience became quickly apparent, and he played a major role in guiding Boswell into the firm it is today.  As a trusted advisor to senior management and a proud representative of the firm, he was an integral part of the company’s business development efforts. John established strong relationships with the NJ Turnpike Authority, the New Jersey and New York State Departments of Transportation, as well as many county and municipal governments. When Boswell merged with ITALCONSULT in 2018, John assumed an even greater role in the company and was consulted on all aspects of operations and strategic planning.
In the office, John was a friend, mentor, and father-figure, always offering his advice, a story, or sometimes just a quip to make the lives of everyone around him better. John was known and liked by everyone, from celebrities, Presidents of the United States, as well as many federal, state, county, and local elected officials.  Numerous photos of John with those individuals adorned his office walls, next to letters of appreciation for his many contributions.
John will be missed by us all, but especially his family, including his loving wife, Jolanta (Yola); his daughter, Lisa and her husband Kenneth; his daughter Lorianne and her husband Bruce; his daughter Stephanie and her partner Ian; as well as his brother Doug.  He will also be missed by his grandchildren: Kelsie, Jessica, Braeden, Tyler, Ellorie and Logan.  John was predeceased by his son, Johnny; his parents, Paul and Matilda; and his brothers, Paul and Richard.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd, at 10:00 am, at St. Paul RC Church, 200 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey, NJ.
