Boswell designed a granular activated carbon (GAC) system to treat for Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) such as Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), and Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA).

The City received notice in June 201 stating that the Running Annual Average RAA for PFOS and PFOA has exceed the MCL. Flow from the wellfield is approximately 2.2 MGD. The GAC units installed at the Elmwood Park Wellfield were three 3 dual Model 12-40 Carbon Adsorption Vessels. The vessels were delivered as dual absorbers, each absorber filled with 40,000 pounds of Virgin Granular Activated Carbon. Services provided by Boswell included permitting, design of the treatment system and construction administration of the project.
