The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) engaged Boswell to provide construction management/inspection for the Interchange 9 Improvements. This $33 Million project involved the widening of the four (4) NJTA ramps to and from Route 18 west of the Turnpike Interchange 9 toll plaza. Route 18 was shifted roughly 50’ to the east to accommodate the widening of the ramps for Route 18 SB. This further involved the construction of the new Route 18 bridge structure, widening of the Naricon Place structure, roadway construction, staged construction, retaining walls, overhead sign structures, drainage, concrete barrier curb, beam guide rail, roadway lighting, traffic signals, paving and installation of rumble strips and MPT. In addition, 3,000 linear feet of precast sound wall construction was added to this project.
Boswell performed the construction management and inspection of this multi-million dollar project, adhering to NJTA and New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Standards and Specifications which involved coordination with multiple entities, including the NJTA Engineering Department, NJDOT, Township of East Brunswick, the County of Middlesex and the New Jersey State Police.
The project also included major utility relocations, such as PSE&G gas and overhead electric, NJDOT’s fiber optic lines, East Brunswick’s water main and Verizon’s copper/fiber conduits.
