New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 9 Improvements

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) engaged Boswell Engineering to provide construction management/inspection of the Interchange 9 Improvements. This $33 Million project involved the widening of the four (4) NJTA ramps to and from Route 18 west of Turnpike Interchange 9 toll plaza. Route 18 was shifted roughly 50’ to the east to accommodate the widening of the ramps for Route 18 SB. This further involved the construction on the new Route 18 bridge Structure No. 83.34B, bridge widening of Naricon Place Structure No. 83.34C, roadway construction, staged construction, retaining walls, overhead sign structures, drainage, concrete barrier curb, beam guide rail, roadway lighting, traffic signals, paving, installation of rumble strips throughout the project limits and MPT. In addition, 3,000 linear feet of precast sound wall construction was added to this project.

Boswell performed project management and inspection of a multi-million dollar project adhering to NJTA and NJDOT Standards and Specifications and involving coordination with multiple entities including the NJTA Engineering Department, NJDOT, Township of East Brunswick, the County of Middlesex, New Jersey State Police and several Public Utilities.

The project also included several utility relocations such as PSE&G Gas and overhead electric, NJDOT’s fiber optic lines, East Brunswick’s water main and Verizon’s copper/fiber.
