Project information

The new University school of Medicine stands next to the new hospital Santa Maria della Misericordia with the vocation to form with it a “High Specialty Healthcare Company.”
The faculty is organized into three departments:

• Biological, medical and surgical units,
• Related specialties with a single administrative center,
• Auxiliary offices.

All the functions of the faculty are located ll over the entire campus: the headmaster’s offices; rooms for teachers; administration and management offices; the library; classrooms and laboratories, including a Great Hall, computer labs, and science labs, as well as a University Centre for advanced genomics studies. The project also includes a stabularium, equipped with the latest technology for diagnostic images.

The campus consists of a series of buildings of the same height, including an elliptical tower standing over the complex which constitutes a characteristic element. The shapes are simple and arranged to form a central courtyard which represents a place of access to the various buildings, and at the same time stands as a meeting place for socialization.

The unifying element characterizing the university complex is the type of façade that is characterized by continuous double skin cladding with aluminium panels and natural ventilation.
